Self-Represented Litigant Coordinators - Sherlocks

What is a Self-Represented Litigant Coordinator (Sherlock)?

Sherlocks help people who do not have a lawyer. Sherlocks may give information about court forms, rules, and steps for many types of non-criminal cases such as: divorce, custody, evictions, protection orders, small claims, etc. Sherlocks cannot and do not provide legal advice. Sherlocks may be able to give information about other local resources to help with housing, food, clothing, domestic violence, and other non-profit organizations. What can a Sherlock do to assist me?

Every Judicial District has a Self-Help or Court Resource Center staffed by one or more Sherlocks. The Sherlocks may:

  • Help people with non-criminal matters navigate the court system.
  • Direct people to appropriate forms.
  • Cannot provide you with legal advocacy or legal advice.
