Law Clerk Applicants

Clerkships at the Colorado Supreme Court are full-time positions for one to two years, typically beginning in August or September each year.   Each Justice hires their own law clerks, typically about 12-18 months in advance.  To apply, unless indicated otherwise below, please submit a cover letter, your resume, your law school transcript reflecting at least three semesters of grades, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect only the applicant’s own work and should not have been edited by anyone else.  Letters of recommendation may be sent separately.  Application materials should be submitted to each Justice separately at the email address indicated below.

Unpaid Internships 

The Justices also hire their own interns and externs and will indicate below whether, and for which semester, they are currently accepting applications.  To apply, unless indicated otherwise below, please submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.  Reference letters may also be included.  Please submit your application materials separately to each Justice with whom you wish to apply using the email addresses listed below.

Chief Justice Márquez is accepting internship applications for Summer 2026.  Applications for this position should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample of ten pages or less, and a list of three references.  The writing sample should reflect the applicant's own work. Justice Hood is accepting applications for 2027-2028 term clerks.  Interviews will likely be scheduled beginning in March 2026.

Justice Hood is also accepting applications for summer 2026 and fall 2026 internships.  He generally accepts internship applications on a rolling basis and will generally review applications and schedule interviews 1-2 months before the next semester.

Clerkship Applications

Justice Samour has completed hiring for 2026-2027, but is accepting clerkship applications for the 2027-2028 term. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter which term they are applying for.  Justice Samour reviews applications for the following year’s term starting in July (i.e., he will review applications for the 2027-2028 term in July 2026) and typically extends offers in August. 

Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect the applicant’s own work.  Specifically, the writing sample may not include work that was edited by a supervisor, professor, or other person. Internship Applications

Justice Samour is also accepting applications for judicial internships.
