Updated: Eleven candidates apply for district court judgeship in Sixth Judicial District

The Sixth Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet on Dec. 20, 2022, at the La Plata County Courthouse to consider candidates for a vacancy on the Sixth Judicial District Court. Eleven candidates have applied for this vacancy. They are Anthony Baca of Dolores, Christian Champagne of Durango, Anthony Edwards of Silverton, Justin Fay of Pagosa Springs, Sarah Law of Durango, Matt Margeson of Dolores, Mary Pero of Durango, Douglas Reynolds of Durango, Barbara Stauch of Denver, Reid Stewart of Hesperus, and Todd Weaver of Pagosa Springs.

Colorado Supreme Court to hear arguments at Pine Creek High School on Nov. 17

DENVER – The Colorado Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs before an audience of students. Limited seating for the public will be available, and visitors must show government-issued identification to enter the school.

DENVER – Applications are now being accepted for upcoming, and current vacancies on 11 Judicial Nominating Commissions throughout Colorado.
As of Dec. 31, 2022, there will be 14 upcoming Judicial Nominating Commission vacancies as detailed below. Also listed are five current Judicial Nominating Commission vacancies on three nominating commissions. Judicial nominating commissioners are volunteers and serve six-year terms interviewing applicants for judicial vacancies and nominating candidates to the governor.

DENVER – Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Brian D. Boatright has appointed District Court Judge Christopher J. Baumann to serve as Chief Judge of the Denver District Court in the Second Judicial District (Denver County).
He replaces the Honorable Michael A. Martinez who was appointed to the District Court in 2000 and named Chief Judge in 2013. Judge Baumann’s appointment is effective upon Chief Judge Martinez’s retirement on Sept 1, 2022.

DENVER – The Colorado Judicial Branch announced today it has opened the application process for Fiscal Year 2023 grants from the Family Violence Justice Fund. This grant program was created by the General Assembly in 1999 to provide funding to nonprofit organizations that offer civil legal services to low-income persons who are experiencing family violence. Successful grant recipients must be prepared to provide full legal services, including assistance with divorce, legal separation, child custody, child support, and other related civil matters.

DENVER – Beginning on March 17, 2022, the Colorado Bar Association will hold monthly clinics offering legal advice on civil appeals, both in-person at the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center and via videoconference.
The Civil Appeals Clinics, designed for people representing themselves in existing civil appeals before the Colorado Supreme Court or Colorado Court of Appeals, are free of charge and will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
