Feb.4, 2026, Douglas County, Colo. — The 23rd Judicial District today celebrated the graduation of participants from its Veterans Treatment Court, recognizing the hard work and commitment of veterans who have successfully completed the intensive, treatment-focused program.
The Veterans Treatment Court is a problem-solving court designed to support justice-involved veterans whose cases involve underlying issues such as substance use disorders, mental health challenges, or trauma related to military service. The program combines judicial oversight with treatment, accountability, and mentorship, offering participants an opportunity to address the root causes of their involvement with the criminal justice system while maintaining public safety.
“Graduation represents months of dedication, accountability, and personal growth,” said Ryan Stuart, Chief Judge of the 23rd Judicial District. “These veterans have shown courage not only in their service to our country, but in their willingness to confront challenges and commit to lasting change.”
Participants in the Veterans Treatment Court work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes judges, defense attorneys, probation officers, treatment providers, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and volunteer veteran mentors. Through regular court appearances, treatment compliance, and peer support, participants are held accountable while receiving the resources they need to succeed.
The program emphasizes rehabilitation over punishment, recognizing that many veterans face unique circumstances related to their service. Successful completion of the program helps participants avoid prison, build stability, improve health outcomes, and reduce the likelihood of future involvement with the justice system.
Today’s graduation honored participants who completed all program requirements. Family members, mentors, treatment providers, and court staff attended the ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
The next graduation ceremony will be on Feb. 18, 2026, at 10:00 am in Division B of the Douglas County Justice Center.
The 23rd Judicial District remains committed to innovative, evidence-based approaches that promote fairness, accountability, and community safety.
