Denver Courts and Police Department Warn Public of a New Toll and Summons Scam

The Colorado Judicial Branch, Denver County Court, and Denver Police Department are urging the public to be vigilant of a new text scam involving tolls. The scam mimics a court summons and instructs people to appear in court for failing to pay a toll.

The scammers try to scare their victims into thinking they face arrest or additional penalties if they do not appear in court at their scheduled date and time. Their victim is then given the option to scan a QR code to pay the fine and avoid a court appearance. Do not scan the QR code and do not make any payments. The scammers are trying to steal money and this is not a legitimate summons.

Anyone who receives this text should report it to www.StopFraudColorado.gov or call the Denver DA’s Fraud Hotline at 720-913-9179.
