Judge Johnson was appointed to the Boulder District Court bench in July 2025. Judge Johnson served as a Magistrate in the 20th Judicial District starting in July 2021 until his appointment. Prior to that, Judge Johnson was in private practice for two years working as an associate at the Bagley Law Firm and Caplan and Earnest. Judge Johnson was also a Deputy District Attorney in the 20th Judicial District from March 1998 through December 2018 where he specialized as a domestic violence and sex crimes prosecutor. He also served as the director of the Community Protection Division prosecuting fraud and other crimes against elderly people. Judge Johnson graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law and from the University of Colorado - Boulder. Currently Judge Johnson presides mainly over pre-decree domestic relations matters.
