Matthew G. Margeson

Governor Polis appointed Matthew G. Margeson to the 7th Judicial District. This appointment fills a new judgeship created by Senate Bill 25-024,  effective July 1, 2026.

Mr. Margeson is a Magistrate Judge for the Court of Indian Offenses for the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, a position he has held since 2023. His docket consists of criminal and domestic matters. Mr. Margeson is also a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Durango, a position he has held since 2024. His docket consists of municipal matters. Previously, he was a County Court Supervisor for the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (2023); Dolores County Court Judge in the 22nd Judicial District (2023-2024); elected District Attorney (2021-2023), Assistant District Attorney (2017-2021), and Deputy District Attorney (2014-2017) in the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office; and Partner at Margeson & Reed, LLC (2007-2014). Mr. Margeson received his B.S. from University of Michigan in 2004 and his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2007.
