Bio

Don Delaney was appointed as a District Court Magistrate in July 2025, where he presides over juvenile delinquency, civil litigation, and permanent protection order matters. He also presides over specialty and problem-solving court dockets, including the Juvenile Recovery Court and Juvenile Competency Court.

Magistrate Delaney was born in Bronxville, New York, and graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in 1992. He earned a B.S. from NYU’s Stern School of Business in 1996, double majoring in Finance and International Business, and received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2001, where he was a member of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law.

Before law school, Magistrate Delaney worked as a Research Analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Morgan Stanley. After law school, he was an associate at Mayer Brown and later served as a public defender. He also served as an Assistant Attorney General with the New York State Attorney General’s Office, where he was lead defense counsel in the Litigation Bureau of the Division of State Counsel before returning to private practice to prosecute complex securities fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors.

After relocating to Colorado, Magistrate Delaney developed a substantial practice in dependency and neglect matters, representing hundreds of clients in roles including respondent parent counsel, guardian ad litem, and counsel for youth.

Magistrate Delaney has long been active in bar and professional service. He previously served on the Committee on Professional Discipline for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Federal Courts Committee for the New York County Lawyers Association, and the Dispute Resolution Section for the New York State Bar Association. He is currently a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Larimer County Bar Association. He has also served on the boards of nonprofit organizations. In 2025, Magistrate Delaney was appointed by the Colorado Supreme Court to serve a seven-year term on the Board of Law Examiners, Law Committee.
