Bio

Judge David Yun was appointed to the Court of Appeals on December 2, 2019, and was sworn in on March 2, 2020. Born in South Korea, Judge Yun immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of eight. He grew up in the Denver suburbs and graduated from Arapahoe High School. In 1989, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science from the University of Colorado Boulder, and he received his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1993.

 

Before joining the Court of Appeals, Judge Yun was a partner at Messner Reeves (2019–2020), a partner at Jaudon & Avery (2001–2019), and an associate, then partner at Long & Jaudon (1993–2001). His law practice focused primarily on civil appeals, health care law, and medical malpractice. Judge Yun regularly argued cases before the Colorado Supreme Court, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He was also part of a team that successfully appealed a case to the United States Supreme Court. Recognized as one of the top appellate lawyers, he has been featured in publications such as Best Lawyers of America, Super Lawyers, and 5280 Magazine. Judge Yun is a judicial fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.

 

Judge Yun has co-authored several law journal articles on First Amendment issues, many of which have been republished in books. He has also written op-ed columns on race and civil rights, taught constitutional law and contracts at a local college, and served on the board of a nonprofit health clinic. Judge Yun is a member of the Colorado Civil Jury Instruction Committee, a managing author of the Civil Benchbook, a contributing author of the Colorado Appellate Handbook, and a civil track lead for the Judicial Conference Planning Committee.
